Correct interpretation of LED-induced health problems
Previously, relevant experts and scholars have proposed that the blue light in the human body has a certain weighted damage to the human retina. Recently, relevant research has found that LEDs have induced health problems. People who work and live in LED white light pollution environment for a long time will have different degrees of damage to the retina and iris. The visual acuity will drop sharply and the incidence of cataracts will be high. 45%. It can also cause dizziness and upset, and even symptoms such as insomnia, loss of appetite, depression, physical weakness and the like.

According to optical experts, the reflected light of mirrored building glass is stronger than that of sunlight, and its reflectivity is as high as 82% to 90%. The light is almost completely reflected, which greatly exceeds the range that the human body can bear.

In addition, research papers have pointed out that LED lamps contain lead, arsenic and dozens of other dangerous substances. White LED lamps have the least lead content, but there is still a large amount of nickel, a heavy metal that can trigger an allergic reaction. The level of copper found in some LED lamps may pose a threat to the environment. If accumulated in rivers and lakes, it may poison aquatic organisms.

To this end, in response to related issues, China Net reporter interviewed Li Zili, Secretary General of the Guangdong Provincial Society, to explore the deep-seated reasons why LED white light was questioned to affect human health and LED lamps were questioned to bring heavy metal pollution.

The "sin" of LED affecting vision health is not all in white light

What is the harm of LED white light to human eye health? In Li Zili's view, the above research results are only an appearance. He has made an in-depth interpretation of this research result from two aspects.

First of all, according to the international standard IEC62471:2006 "Photobiosafety of lamps and lamp systems", 1 cataract mainly causes damage from 700nm-1400nm red light to infrared light and 290nm-325nm medium band ultraviolet light, generally called "infrared-induced cataract". "and "UV-induced cataract", but currently there is basically no infrared light in the LED and less in the mid-band ultraviolet; 2 photoinduced keratitis is mainly caused by short-wavelength of 200nm ~ 320nm, medium-wave ultraviolet light, but currently not used in LED The presence of these ultraviolet rays; 3 retinal hazards are mainly caused by photochemical damage of 400 nm to 500 nm blue light, and retinal thermal damage of 400 nm to 1100 nm visible light to infrared light, but the main effect of thermal damage of the retina must be less than 10 seconds to produce higher temperature to the human eye. The high-power lamps are shot, and there is basically no infrared light in the LEDs, and there is basically no high-power LED lamps used in close proximity. It can be seen that there are almost no ultraviolet and infrared light in the LED lamps currently used, and the harm of LED white light to the human eye is mainly reflected in the "blue light" aspect.

However, many traditional products, such as high-end and high-power metal halide lamps used in shopping malls and stadiums, have both high-power infrared heat and "blue light", and "long-wave, medium-wave, and even short-wave ultraviolet rays". The most popular incandescent lamps are also a large amount of infrared light, a small amount of ultraviolet light and blue light. White light can be decomposed into red orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. It can also be composed of red, green, and blue primary colors. Therefore, blue light is inevitably present in all products.

Secondly, there are a large number of high-intensity infrared rays, ultraviolet rays and blue light in the sunlight. The sun is very strong, and its ground level is about 100 times that of people's reading learning norms. The blue light in the sun is the largest in its spectral power. Therefore, it is not necessary to talk about the blue light retina damage of LED white light to the human eye. After years of controversy and improvement, there is basically no risk of reaching the second class RG2 LED lamps. This kind of RG2 lamps are long-distance direct-view lamps at a long distance. It's perfectly fine, and it will damage the retina when it is close to the light for a long time. In contrast, people who look up and look up at the noon sun for more than a second may have retinal damage. From this point of view, the risk of the sun reflected from the mirror surface of the building's curtain wall is relatively high (especially for children and young children who cannot avoid glare) because people do not need to look up too much and their eyes may look To strong reflected light. It can be seen that LED lights and LED lamps are relatively safe.

In general, to solve the human eye health problems caused by LED white light, we can only go back to how to suppress the blue light to find the answer to the human eye retinal damage.

LED lamps can not be "full" responsibility for heavy metal pollution

For LED lamps that are suspected of causing heavy metal pollution, Li Zili believes that not only LED lamps contain heavy metal elements. Many daily consumer products or their production processes use a lot of heavy metal elements such as nickel and copper. In the past, traditional products used heavy metals such as nickel and copper. For example, fluorescent wires have a large number of iron-plated nickel wires and various electric light sources. A large number of copper, copper-plated iron, nickel-plated copper, nickel-plated iron, nickel-plated iron wire, etc., E27, E14 burners of energy-saving lamps are mostly heavy metal nickel such as iron-plated nickel.

At the same time, Li Zili also pointed out that it is not a good thing to use these heavy metal materials in the LED containment and production process. Nickel is the most common allergic metal. Therefore, to reduce the harm of nickel and other heavy metals to the human body and the environment, In the process of dismantling and recycling LED products, it is necessary to do the corresponding environmental protection work.

Why LED lights are repeatedly questioned

White light is a common light. Traditional fluorescent tubes and energy-saving lamps are also white, but their health problems for the human eye are not very prominent. Why do LED lamps have such a big impact on human eye health? Even with the heavy metal pollution that many traditional lamps have, LED lamps will be “snapped out” in this respect. In response to the above questions, Li Zili believes that there are the following Several reasons:

1) LEDs are very advantageous compared to traditional ones, but LEDs still have some drawbacks compared to traditional products. For example, 1LED has a small light-emitting area. In the early days, many LED lamps did not undergo diffused light processing, resulting in high brightness and glare; 2 LED luminosity and chromaticity spatial distribution were uneven, resulting in uneven light and color of the surface; 3 even in the same color gamut 2 LEDs, for example, even if they meet the standard requirements in the 7-step color gamut, but the color difference between them may also be very obvious; in addition to metal halide lamps in the traditional products, other lights will not appear; 4 the same At color temperature, in theory and in fact, LEDs are at a greater risk than blue light hazards of traditional products. Especially in the early stage of LED development, LED has low light efficiency and high price. Many LED products use high color temperature LED light-emitting diodes with higher light efficiency than low color temperature LEDs, which is another reason for high brightness and glare.

2) Human cognition and adaptability. The advantages of LEDs compared to traditional ones are very obvious, and the technology is developing very fast. The process of replacing LEDs is very fast. The difference between LEDs and traditions does make some people feel uncomfortable for a short time, especially in the early stage of LED development, but after a while, Most people have become accustomed to adapting.

3) Because the tradition is not a high-level industry, but it involves a lot of people, it is not very concerned by the technical staff. Most of the experts engaged in high-tech have no traditional practical experience, and the traditional technicians also have insufficient knowledge of LED. Both of these make it difficult to make a comprehensive and accurate comparison between LED and traditional, and it is difficult to fully understand the shortcomings of LED.

4) The early development of LED is still not in place. For example, the most important light efficiency indicators can not reflect higher than the traditional, some of the LED development trends are not in place, some traditional enterprises in the wait-and-see state may be in their own interests, in various The occasion published some comments that were not conducive to LED, and it was deeply misleading to the public. At the same time, because there are no standards for initial LEDs, it is quite confusing. Many LED lighting products do have many problems.

Based on the above interpretation, LEDs are indispensable to become the target of the world and the society. However, Li Zili also pointed out that the human health problems that LED lighting may induce are not exclusive to them. Traditional industries and products also exist, and some are even more serious. With the advancement of LED technology, all problems will be solved.
