Pros and Cons of LED Recessed Lighting
LED recessed lighting is quickly becoming a popular option for lighting fixtures in homes. Once you have made the decision to install recessed wall lights, you will need to decide which type of bulbs you will want in your new lighting fixtures. As with any designing or construction decision you will make on your home, LED lighting comes with a host of pros and cons that you will want to carefully consider before you make the decision to go with LED lighting.

Pros of LED Recessed Lighting
For those of you who are interested in environmental concerns — or if you are just interested in keeping your electrical bills as low as possible — LED lighting may be a great choice for you. LED lights are known for their energy saving potential and can save you a significant amount of money over the long run. This is due to the fact that LED lights burn at a much cooler temperature than conventional light bulbs and have a much longer useful lifespan. Where incandescent light bulbs have a useful life of around 1,000 hours and fluorescent light bulbs will last for around 10,000, LED lights typically last for a minimum of 50,000 hours and often can reach nearly 100,000 hours of useful light. Changing bulbs less frequently means having to buy fewer light bulbs, which will lead to savings in the long run. Additionally, LED lights typically cost significantly less to run when compared to incandescent or fluorescent bulbs. This means that even when your lights are on and working you are saving money over other bulb choices.

Since LED lights burn cooler than other types of light bulbs, you can potentially install them in places where other light bulbs will be unsafe. Since recessed wall lighting must be inset directly into walls or ceilings, there is always the potential for a fire hazard. To combat this, many manufacturers offer recessed lighting kits that are specifically rated for installation in places where fire or heat damage is possible. These kits typically cost more than their conventional counterparts, however, so using LED lights will save you costs in terms of which installation kits you will be able to use.

Finally, LED lights are known for being particularly durable. This means that the lights themselves are not prone to breaking or going bad in some way due to rough handling or falling. This, too, can potentially save you money long term.

Cons of LED Recessed Lighting
The primary complaint associated with LED lighting is with the quality of light emitted. Many individuals feel that the light given off by LED bulbs is either weaker than with conventional incandescent or fluorescent bulbs, or that it is less realistic looking. These people argue that the light given off by LEDs has a characteristic bluish tinge to it, which makes rooms look more clinical than natural. It is important to note, however, that much of this perception of LED lighting is due to outdated notions about the potential of LED lights.
